A train crash in Pakistan’s Punjab province left at least 31 people injured

A passenger train and a freight train that was stopped on the major railway line in Pakistan’s Punjab state crashed on Sunday, inflicting at least 31 injuries.

The mishap happened close to the Qila Sattar Shah Station in the Sheikhupura neighborhood.

According to Geo News, the collision occurred because the passenger train from Mianwali headed for Lahore was operating on the same track as a freight train that was already halted.

It claimed the train driver made an effort to prevent the collision but was unsuccessful.

The rescue team said that the collision harmed 31 people. They continued by saying that five wounded passengers had been taken to the hospital located at the district office.

The railway authorities said that an accident inquiry had been started.

Following the collision, the Lahore division’s train operations, according to a railways official, are going without a hitch.

After the collision, the track was cleared, the spokesman said.

Four railroad employees, including train driver Imran Sarwar and his aide Muhammad Bilal, have been suspended, according to the spokeswoman.

The statement stated that an investigation committee headed by a deputy principal officer has been established and would present its findings on the occurrence in 24 hours.

Legal action would be taken against individuals responsible for the event, according to the head of the railroads.

No compromises will be made, according to Shahid Aziz, CEO of Railways.

Shehbaz Sharif, a former prime minister and the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), expressed regret for the tragedy and called for retribution against those accountable.

On Pakistan’s deteriorating rail network, accidents often occur. The nation has had a series of fatal railway accidents during the last ten years.

At least 56 people were killed and 12 more were wounded when up to 10 bogies of the Hazara Express, which was traveling from Karachi to Havelian, derailed in August this year at the Sahara Railway Station in the Sindh province’s Nawabshah district.
