Amid claims of rape, Christian Ziegler, the chairman of the Florida GOP, is being called to resign

The Florida Republican Party chairman, Christian Ziegler, is under increasing pressure to step down due to a rape accusation and a vote of censure from his own party. In addition to Congressman Matt Gaetz, Governor Ron DeSantis, Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, and other Republican leaders have joined the clamor of those urging Christian to resign while the police look into the allegation.

Police reports claim that Christian has been charged with sexual assault against a lady who had previously agreed to a threesome with him and his wife, Bridget Ziegler. Moms for Liberty is a conservative organization that opposes the teaching of critical race theory and mask requirements in schools.

The said incident happened at the woman’s residence in October when Bridget Ziegler did not show up for the scheduled meeting. According to the lady, Christian pushed himself on her against her will.

Christian says that the intercourse was consensual and refutes the accusation. He is not under arrest or facing any criminal charges.

Bridget is a member of the Sarasota school board who was elected, and she is also involved in the controversy. The board decided on Tuesday to ask for her resignation even though she is not under suspicion of any misconduct. She was not going to cooperate.

Since the Zieglers have been outspoken opponents of LGBTQ+ rights, their relationship with another woman has infuriated their opponents and led to charges of hypocrisy.

The Florida Republican Party is split on the issue of a possible removal.
To resolve the matter, the Florida Republican Party called an emergency meeting on Sunday. Citing Christian’s behavior as inappropriate for the position, the party board approved a move to condemn him and request his resignation. The motion was based on a paper that Lee County GOP chairman Michael Thomason shared on X, previously Twitter.

The motion said, “Christian Ziegler has engaged in conduct that renders him unfit for the office.”

Christian made an unsuccessful effort to defend himself throughout the meeting. “Ziegler on soap box trying to defend himself, not working,” tweeted Thomason.

The decision to remove Christian from his position will be put to a future vote by the executive committee of the party.
