“Genocidal Acts In Gaza”: South Africa Brings International Lawsuit Against Israel

Hague: South Africa filed a complaint against Israel for allegedly committing “genocidal” activities in Gaza at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Friday. Israel “with disgust” rejected the allegation.
A statement claimed that “Israel has engaged in, is engaging in, and risks further engaging in genocidal acts against the Palestinian people in Gaza” in reference to the International Court of Justice’s application concerning Israel’s alleged infringement of its responsibilities under the Genocide Convention.

Israel has been operating “with the requisite specific intent…to destroy Palestinians in Gaza as part of the broader Palestinian national, racial and ethnic group,” according to South Africa’s appeal to The Hague.

Israel denied the accusation, with Lior Haiat, a spokeswoman for the Israeli foreign ministry, posting on X, previously Twitter, that “Israel rejects with disgust the blood libel spread by South Africa and its application” to the International Court of Justice.

Almost twelve weeks have passed since the brutal Hamas assaults on Israel sparked the war, which has left large swathes of northern Gaza in ruins and Israeli airstrikes and ground operations concentrated on the middle and southern regions of the territory.

Around 1,140 people were killed in an assault carried out by Hamas gunmen on October 7, the majority of them were civilians, according to an AFP count based on Israeli statistics.

About 250 persons were also taken prisoner by the Palestinian militants; over half of them are still held captive within the conflict zone, and several are thought to be dead.

According to the health ministry in Gaza, which is run by Hamas, Israel’s ceaseless military assault since then has killed at least 21,507 individuals, the majority of them were women and children.
