Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, said at a news conference that India was crucial in “preventing the West” from pursuing its positions on several problems, including Ukraine.

The summit statement made it very apparent that the UN Charter must be followed in order to manage all armed confrontations across the globe and that Western countries would not be able to go forward with their ideas for handling different crises.

Lavrov said that the G20 Summit in New Delhi offered a path for equity in world politics and economics as well.

He said that the West will not be able to maintain its “hegemony” as new centers of power emerged throughout the globe. “I want to express my gratitude to India for preventing attempts to politicize the G20,” he said.

Regarding issues brought on by climate change, the Russian foreign minister said that Western powers had broken their pledge to provide poor countries with $100 billion yearly to address the issue.
