Israel’s Government Agrees To A Ceasefire With Hamas, Freeing Fifty Hostages During A Four-Day Silence

The Israeli cabinet agreed to a cease-fire agreement with the terrorist Hamas organization on Wednesday. The agreement would free Palestinian prisoners detained in Israeli jails and temporarily stop the deadly bombardment on Gaza. Dozens of hostages were being held in the besieged strip.

The agreement was made at a time when the deadly conflict in Gaza entered its sixth week, killing over 11,000 Palestinians—of whom, according to the Health Ministry in Gaza, two-thirds were women and children. Actually, due to the breakdown of certain elements of the enclave’s healthcare system and the challenges associated with removing remains from regions taken over by Israeli tanks and soldiers, Palestinian health authorities in Gaza have not been able to provide an updated death toll.

It is unclear, nonetheless, when the cease-fire agreement would go into force.

Deal on Israel-Hamas cease-fire
The Israeli government said on Wednesday that Hamas has agreed to release fifty of the approximately 240 captives it is holding in the Gaza Strip over the course of four days. It said that for every ten hostages freed, the quiet would be extended by one more day. Women and children will be the first captives to be freed, according to the authorities.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, said that if the cease-fire ends, Israel will go back on the attack against Hamas. Netanyahu said, “We are at war, and we will not stop the war.” “We will continue until we achieve all our goals.”

According to Netanyahu, intelligence operations would continue during this quiet time, enabling the army to be ready for the next phases of combat. The conflict, according to him, will go on until “Gaza will not threaten Israel.”

However, the cease-fire agreement does not imply that the war on Gaza, whose 2.3 million residents have been denied fuel, food, and water since October 7, will stop. Israel keeps hitting what it claims are terrorist targets in Gaza, often resulting in the deaths of women and children.
