Kim Jong-un honors dead troops before the anniversary of the Armistice

According to state media, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited graves on Wednesday to pay tribute to the nation’s troops who died in the 1950–1953 Korean War and to mark the anniversary of the armistice’s signing.

On July 27, 1953, an armistice deal brought an end to the Korean War, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The Great Fatherland Liberation War is how the North refers to the conflict, and Victory Day was declared on the day the armistice was signed.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice, Kim visited the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery in Pyongyang on Tuesday. He was accompanied by Defense Minister Kang Sun-nam and other military officials, according to the North’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Kim made her first public appearance in over two weeks during the visit.

His final public appearance was on July 12, when he oversaw the launch of a Hwasong-18 solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile.

According to a different report from the KCNA, Kim also paid “high tribute” to the dead Chinese troops on the occasion of the armistice anniversary by visiting the Chinese People’s Volunteers (CPV) martyrs’ grave in Hoechang county, South Pyongan province.

During the Korean War, China fought with the North against South Korean, US, and UN forces.
