Putin Declares His Support for Former US President Donald Trump as “Politically Motivated”

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to the legal actions taken against former US President Donald Trump as “politically motivated persecution.”

The Kremlin, which is thought to have cordial connections with Trump, has often spoken out in support of the former president, who is accused of a number of crimes related to election meddling.

At an economic summit in the Far East, Putin stated, “As for the persecution of Trump, for us, in the current environment, it’s good because it shows the rottenness of the American system.”

“It is the persecuting of one’s rival for political reasons.”

Putin, a former member of the Soviet secret services, said, “And this illustrates the foes we are up against… The worstial face of American capitalism, as they used to say in the Soviet Union.

Since the Kremlin began waging widespread conflicts in Ukraine, relations between Washington and Moscow, already strained by a long list of problems under Putin, have reached new lows.

Putin said that despite “whoever will be elected president” in the next year, he did not anticipate any change in US foreign policy toward Russia.

He said that Washington was inciting widespread anti-Russian sentiment among Americans.

The Russian leader said that “current authorities have directed American society in an anti-Russian spirit.”

“Now that they’ve accomplished their goal, it will be very challenging to steer this ship in the opposite direction.”
