Russia: I don’t think the peace talks in Switzerland are worth it

Russia said on Thursday that it did not see any value in a meeting that Switzerland is organizing to explore ways to resolve the situation in Ukraine in the middle of June and to which Moscow is not presently invited.

The Swiss government said on Thursday that while it was willing to include Russia, Moscow has consistently stated that it has no interest in being among the dozens of nations invited; thus, “at this stage,” Russia is not one of them.

At the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Switzerland announced in January that it would hold the conference.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for the Kremlin, said that Moscow did not think the proposal was serious. Without Russia’s involvement, “what kind of conference can we talk about with serious expectations of some kind of result?” he said.
