The Palestinian ambassador demands more backing for the Gaza ceasefire

Speaking to a group of diplomats and journalists on Friday, Ibrahim Khraishi, the Palestinian ambassador to the UN in Geneva, encouraged Western nations to support a truce in Gaza more strongly.

Following a minute of silence in honor of the thousands of civilian deaths in Gaza and the extraordinary number of UN personnel fatalities, Khraishi was chatting with more than 40 ambassadors, according to Xinhua news agency.

He demanded that Israeli soldiers withdraw from their control of Gaza and emphasized that providing humanitarian supplies alone would not be enough to address the situation.

He emphasized that the situation in Gaza has beyond the definition of a humanitarian catastrophe and is confronting the core values of humanity, citing a previous comment made by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Concerning the disparate views of Western nations in upholding Israel’s right to retaliate and urging prudence to minimize civilian losses, Khraishi also expressed his worries.

The majority of the ambassadors in attendance on Friday are from Middle Eastern, Asian, and African countries. With the exception of the Dutch ambassador, who remained on the sidelines, there was a noticeable absence of Western nations.

According to Khraishi, nations are thinking of holding a special UN Human Rights Council meeting to discuss the Gaza situation.
