The US lauds the “India-Middle East Europe Economic Corridor” and commends India for the G20 conference

The US praised India for hosting the G20 conference and hailed the historic “India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor,” which would usher in a new age of connectivity from Europe to Asia and will drive economic development across the two continents.

The two-day summit of the G20 Leaders, which was hosted by India, ended on Sunday. On Saturday, the presidents of the US, India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union formally unveiled the ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) on the sidelines of the summit in New Delhi.

An alternative to China’s contentious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is the new economic corridor.

The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), according to US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, “was a landmark that we believe will usher in a new era of connectivity from Europe to Asia that will stimulate economic growth, economic development across the two continents, as well as cooperation on energy and digital connectivity.”

He responded to a question by saying, “The memorandum of understanding is among the United States, India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, EU, and other G20 partners to explore a shipping and rail transportation corridor that will enable the flow of commerce, energy, and data from India, the Middle East, and Europe.

The recently finished G20 Summit in New Delhi, according to Miller, was a huge success.

He said, “We firmly feel that it was a success.

“First of all, the G20 is a sizable organization with regard to the statement. In addition to China, Russia also participates in the G20. There are members who have a variety of opinions. We consider it to be a very important statement that the organization was able to make that calls for respecting territorial integrity and sovereignty and declares that those principles should not be violated because that is precisely what Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is based on, he said.

“Those are the exact questions. We thus believed it was a really significant message for them to make. The United States participated in new economic agreements between Saudi Arabia and India that were announced during the G20, as you may have seen, according to Miller.

“I’m not going to comment on whether or not (Chinese) President Xi Jinping should have gone, with regard to his absence. We found President Biden and Secretary Blinken’s attendance and direct interaction with their colleagues to be quite fruitful, he added.

There is no alternative for it, and we thought it was very beneficial for American interests to be able to progress those dialogues. “We were actively advancing the foreign policy priorities of the United States, including engaging on the war in Ukraine, in a number of pull-aside meetings with leaders of other nations, as the White House made public over the weekend, in addition to the sessions,” Miller said.

Through a series of frantic negotiations, India was able to forge an unexpected consensus among the G20 nations on the contentious Ukraine conflict, with emerging economies like Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia playing a key role in reaching the agreement on the declaration on the first day of the summit.

The G20 member nations account for over two-thirds of global population, over 75% of global commerce, and nearly 85% of the world’s GDP.

Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union make up the group. The African Union was accepted as a permanent member of the G20 on Saturday.
