To improve bilateral relations, EAM Jaishankar will meet with key Singaporean authorities

According to the foreign ministry, S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, will meet with Singapore’s newly elected president Tharman Shanmugaratnam and other top leaders to assess bilateral relations and look into potential new areas of cooperation.

From October 19 to October 21, Jaishankar will be in Singapore, the ministry said in a statement.

The Singapore Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that Jaishankar’s visit “reaffirms the close and long-standing ties between Singapore and India, which are built on a strong foundation of strategic trust.”

Jaishankar will meet with President Shanmugaratnam, Lawrence Wong, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, and Teo Chee Hean, the Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, during his visit. On September 14, Tharman became the president of Singapore.

According to the Ministry, Jaishankar will also meet with Ministers of Defense Ng Eng Hen, Foreign Affairs Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Home Affairs and Law K. Shanmugam, and Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong.

According to the statement, “the visit will be a chance for both sides to review our bilateral cooperation, explore cooperation in emerging fields like digitalization and skills development under the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, and exchange views on regional and global developments.”

According to a statement released earlier this week in New Delhi by the Ministry of External Affairs, Jaishankar will serve as head of the regional meeting of Indian Heads of Mission while in Singapore.
