Two people killed and seven wounded in a gunfight at a pub in South Florida

DORAL, Fla.: Early on Saturday, a gunfire broke out inside a pub in a Miami suburb, leaving two people dead and seven wounded.

According to investigators, a brawl between patrons at the Martini Bar in the Doral, Florida, CityPlace Doral complex started about three in the morning. Detective Alvaro Zabaleta of Miami-Dade Police reported that an unidentified individual pulled out a pistol, fired, and killed the security guard when he interfered.

The gunman was killed by one of the two Doral police officers who returned fire while serving as protection. Reporters were informed by Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez that one of the policemen, a four-year veteran of the department, had been wounded in the leg and had placed a tourniquet on himself.

“Our police officers receive extensive training, which is a testament to why that officer is alive today—even after he discharged his firearm,” Lopez said.

According to authorities, six more bystanders—two women and four men—were also struck by gunfire.

According to WTVJ-TV, the injured cop has been discharged from the hospital. According to Zabaleta, two of the six witnesses are in severe condition and are still hospitalized.

A portion of the businesses in the mixed-use property have flats above them. A adjacent apartment building’s occupant reported to WPLG-TV that he heard a barrage of gunshots.

William Suedois said, “I heard three initial gunshots around 3:15 or 3:30 in the morning.” Didn’t truly understand the source of it. I mistook it for fireworks. Then, very quickly, quite loudly, I heard maybe ten or fifteen right after that. It was quite frightful.

According to Zabaleta, it’s “way too early to know” who fired first. Later, Lopez informed the Miami Herald that the only people with firearms were the two cops and the first attacker.

He noted that although Miami-Dade Police is looking into the two fatalities, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is looking into the gunshots. The identities of the shooter and the security guard who were slain are yet unknown. On Saturday, investigators claimed they were still unable to determine what started the brawl.

Long after dawn on Saturday, police were questioning witnesses inside the bar, while crime scene investigators had sections of the mall cordoned off to collect evidence.

Managers of the mall released a statement announcing the reopening of a portion of the development on Saturday night and the implementation of extra security measures.

The proprietors of the bar said that they were both conducting their own inquiry and working with the police.

A portion of the statement said, “We are here for our community today, and always. This trauma will be felt deeply by us all for a long time to come.”
