Mizoram Seizes Heroin Worth Over Rs 7 Crore, Arrests 8

In two separate searches, the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department recovered heroin valued at more than Rs 7 crore and detained eight people, an official said on Saturday.

Officials from the state Excise and Narcotics Department stopped a car at Selesih village in Aizawl on Saturday after acting on specific information, the official said. They found 2.6 kg of heroin inside.


He claimed that seven persons, including five Assamese, were detained for having the contraband, which was estimated to be worth Rs 7.3 crore.

He said that authorities also took the accused’s car, which was used to transport the heroin.

In a separate operation, on Friday in Aizawl’s Bawngkawn neighborhood, volunteers from the Central Anti-Drugs Squad (CADS) of the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) and authorities from the Excise and Narcotics Department confiscated 56 gm of heroin from a woman street vendor’s hands, valued at almost Rs 16 lakh.

The officer said that Myanmar was the source of the heroin that was confiscated.

He said, “The relevant provisions of the Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 were used to book the eight accused.”
