Monsoon Fury: 13 Districts in Uttar Pradesh Affected By Floods, Heavy Rains Lash Karnataka, 3 Killed In Kerala — Latest Updates

On Sunday, when Kerala’s central and northern regions were pummeled by torrential rains, three persons were murdered in events connected to the weather.

Karnataka and Maharashtra have also had significant rains. According to a statement from the state administration, the Vidarbha area of Maharashtra has seen at least 19 rain-related fatalities over the course of the last 10 days, and 4,500 homes have suffered damage.

Over 300 villages in 13 districts in Uttar Pradesh have been flooded. Over the course of Saturday and Sunday, at least four fatalities in the state were attributed to the rain.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Uttarakhand (through Friday), Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan (through Thursday), Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Western Uttar Pradesh (through Wednesday–Friday), West Rajasthan (through Tuesday–Wednesday), and Jammu and Kashmir (through Wednesday–Thursday), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday. For the next 10 days, the IMD also predicted significant rainfall in Odisha.

Kerala: 3 dead as flooding strikes central and northern regions
After a short respite, Kerala’s central and northern regions saw severe rainfall over the weekend. There have been three rain-related fatalities recorded.

According to official sources quoted by the PTI, two youngsters allegedly drowned on Sunday in Wayanad after they allegedly slipped into a body of water. Thrissur saw the drowning of a third individual.

Due to the expected heavy rains on Monday, district officials in Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur announced a vacation for all educational institutions.

In addition to Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for nine districts: Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kasaragod.

According to the state disaster management authority, 38 people have been housed in the few relief camps that have been established in the districts of Idukki, Wayanad, and Kasaragod as of right now, according to PTI. The authority also stated that there have been numerous instances of tree felling across the state as well as damage to homes and other buildings.

Most regions in Kerala could expect thundershowers through Wednesday, according to the IMD.

Maharashtra: 4,500 homes were destroyed and 19 people died in Vidarbha in 10 days.
In the Vidarbha area of Maharashtra, at least 19 people have died in rain-related accidents over the course of the last 10 days, according to authorities on Sunday.

In addition, officials informed PTI that strong rains in their area had also destroyed almost 4,500 homes.

Around 54,000 hectares of agricultural land were also impacted by the recent severe rains, of which more than 53,000 hectares are in the Amravati division alone. As a result, 2,796 people—mostly from the Yavatmal district—were relocated to safer areas, according to authorities speaking to PTI.

According to a preliminary assessment from the authorities, 875.84 hectares of agricultural land in the Nagpur division were hit by the rain, including 853.74 hectares in Chandrapur and 22.1 hectares in Wardha. According to the officials, more than 1,600 homes were destroyed in this division, according to PTI.

According to PTI, over 110 people in Yavatmal’s Anandnagar Tanda village’s Mahagaon tehsil who were trapped by floodwaters were rescued on Saturday. In Buldhana, close to 100 people were moved to safer locations on Saturday in Katargaon village in Sangrampur tehsil.

According to PTI, Yavatmal Collector Amol Yedge stated that three people perished in the district and 1,426 homes were damaged due to rain and flooding. He also stated that approximately 280 people were successfully rescued from the flood waters, and 6,275 people were relocated to temporary housing and given food.

Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister, said in Nagpur that certain areas of Maharashtra have seen rainfall equivalent to 15 to 20 days’ worth on average in only two to three days.

According to a municipal official who spoke to PTI, the island city, eastern suburbs, and western suburbs all had average rainfall over the 24-hour period ending at 8 am on Monday of 58.42 mm, 69.15 mm, and 70.41 mm, respectively.

Civic authorities said that there had been no reports of waterlogging anywhere in the city and that the IMD Mumbai had forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours in its daily meteorological prediction published on Monday morning, according to PTI.

Karnataka’s shoreline is battered by heavy rains.
Different regions are still being flooded by heavy rain. According to PTI, the water level in various rivers in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi in coastal Karnataka had risen over the last two days, flooding low-lying districts.

According to PTI, which cited government sources, the water levels in the Nethravati, Phalguni, and rivulets in various areas of the DK district pose a danger to residents who live close to the banks of the rivers. A few households have also been relocated to safer areas in the Bantwal taluk.

According to PTI, a substantial portion of arecanut plants in the taluk has also been inundated, worrying the farmers. It further said that schools in a number of taluks in the DK and Udupi districts were closed on Monday due to official holidays.

A high-tension electrical tower carrying a 110 KV KPTCL overhead line is in danger, according to sources who spoke to PTI in the Karvalu region of the Udupi district, but authorities emphasized that all essential safeguards have been taken. The PTI further said that there is a risk that Manipal, Brahmavar, Kunjibettu, and Udyavar might experience power outages if the tower is destroyed. According to officials speaking to PTI, installation started on Sunday after the old Manipal-Hiriadka line was activated as a precaution.

Up to Thursday, coastal Karnataka could expect moderate to heavy rainfall, according to the IMD.

Uttar Pradesh: Four fatalities and 300 impacted villages across 13 districts
Floods have impacted more than 300 villages in 13 districts around Uttar Pradesh.

According to PTI on Sunday night, four further fatalities were confirmed in the previous 24 hours.

According to PTI, up to 331 villages are impacted by the flooding of many rivers, including the Ganga and the Yamuna, in Uttar Pradesh and the higher catchment regions.

Aligarh, Bijnor, Budaun, Farrukhabad, Firozabad, Ghaziabad, Kasganj, Mathura, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Shahjahanpur, and Shamli are the impacted districts.

According to PTI, which cited government statistics, 61 shelters have been put up for the 25,281 affected individuals.

The Ganga River is reportedly running above the danger line at the Kachla Bridge in Budaun and Fatehgarh in Farrukhabad, while its water level has approached the red mark in Narora, Bulandshahr, according to reports, according to PTI.

Uttarakhand: Prolonged rainstorms cause damage to the Badrinath Highway
The Gauchar-Badrinath roadway in Uttarakhand was swept away following heavy rains on Monday, disrupting the pilgrimage to Badrinath.

Images of the location reveal landslide debris brought on by rain. The stretch wouldn’t be repaired for two to three days, said to an official.

“A significant portion of the Badrinath-Shri Hemkund National Highway is damaged in Kameda, Gauchar in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand,” Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana informed ANI. The reconstruction of the road will take 1-2 days.

Around 50 visitors who were stuck in New Tehri due to the flooding of a seasonal stream after heavy rains were rescued.

According to Dhanolti Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Lakshmi Raj Chauhan, the visitors were stuck in the Sitapur region, close to Dhanolti, on Sunday after the makeshift bridge across the seasonal stream’s suddenly rising water level owing to heavy rain in the hills was damaged.

IMD expects Odisha to see severe rainfall for 10 days.
The IMD anticipated significant rains for ten days as a cyclonic circulation developed over the Bay of Bengal on Monday.

According to PTI, the following districts have received a yellow rain warning: Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangapur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Bolangir.

Apart from this, the IMD said that light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur in many locations over the remaining districts of the state as well as most locations over the districts of South Odisha, according to PTI.

According to a senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre who spoke to PTI, the meteorological office also predicted heavy rainfall in Odisha due to a potential low-pressure region till July 28. He said that the intensity of the rain would rise starting on Tuesday.
