Neha from the Sirmaur trans-Giri region excels in the Class XII examinations

Neha, a student from the isolated trans-Giri region of the Sirmaur district, made it onto the list of the top 10 meritorious students in the state during the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board’s Class XII exams. Neha from Bela village, who attends Government Model Senior Secondary School in Shillai, has achieved 480 out of 500 points, which puts her in eighth place in the state, according to the results released today.

Her family was below the poverty line (BPL), and she used to walk the whole 20 miles each way every day from her home to school and back. She used to leave her house at 5:30 in the morning during the severe winters in order to trek through the unfavorable woodland routes and get to school by 9:00.

Neha’s father, Tikam Singh, passed away from sickness around six years ago while she was in Class VI. After that, her mother, Kamala Devi, took on the role of mother to her three daughters and two boys. Devi works in the fields to support her family and make sure her kids finish school. While Neha’s younger brother Aman attends class XII, Shruti is enrolled in class X, and Sunil is in class VIII, her older sister Nikita is a second-year college student.

Neha’s older sister, Nikita, revealed in an interview with “The Tribune” that her mother had little money but was brave enough to make sure all of her siblings attended school.

Neha said that her mother has always served as an inspiration to her. She said that her objective was to become a teacher in order to provide children from distant locations with access to high-quality education. She gave credit to her family, instructors, and mother for her accomplishments.
