PGMER-23: 20 Days of Paid Leave for Postgraduate Medical Students; Review Additional Benefits

New Delhi: The guidelines for postgraduate medical students have been made available by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Details on the different postgraduate credentials, NExT, NEET PG, NEET SS, and stipend granted to postgraduate students are listed in the rules known as the “Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023” or “PGMER-23.”

The requirements, length of the program, and elements of postgraduate training are listed below, under the PGMER-23.
postgraduate general specialization RequirementsThe course lasts for three years and two years.
Super-specialty postgraduate Classes- The course lasts for three years.
Postgraduate Certificate Programs- The course lasts for two years.
Courses for Postdoctoral Certificates- The course lasts for a year.
Fellowship for Postdocs (PDF) Classes- The course lasts for two years (DM/MCh, six years).- The course lasts for six years.

NEET SS and NExT
The ‘NMC, National Exit Test Regulations, 2023’ will be a prerequisite for candidates who want to complete a postgraduate wide specialty degree in medicine.
Medical aspirants must obtain the minimum eligible score on the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Super-Speciality (NEET-SS), which is either administered by the National Medical Commission or caused to have been conducted by the National Medical Commission, in order to pursue a super-speciality program or course in medicine.

In order to fulfill the requirements of specialty training, postgraduate training must include teaching students through lectures, seminars, journal clubs, group discussions, lab and experimental work, research, clinical meetings, grand rounds, clinicopathological conferences, and hands-on training in diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment, basic medical sciences, allied clinical specialties, and other subjects.
Every graduate student will be employed as a resident physician full-time. They will be given appropriate time off each day in addition to working at respectable hours.

stipend for graduate students
In the State or Union Territory where the institution is located, postgraduate students pursuing postgraduate degrees, diplomas, or superspeciality courses will receive stipends equivalent to those received by postgraduate students at Central Government and State Government medical institutions.
Each postgraduate student will get a minimum of 20 days of paid leave each year, sometimes known as casual leave. Postgraduate students will be granted one weekly vacation, depending on employment demands. Maternity leave for female postgraduate students will be granted in accordance with current government policies. Paternity leave for male postgraduate students will be granted in accordance with current government policies. The applicants will be eligible for five days of paid academic leave annually in addition to twenty days of paid leave.
