₹5,000 fine for operating TC vehicles

Kolkata: Any infraction pertaining to the driving of “TC (Trade Certificate) cars” is penalised under Section 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act, with a maximum fine of Rs 5,000 for the first offence. If there is a second violation, there might be a minimum punishment of Rs 2,000 and a year in jail. Repeat offenders may potentially face a punishment of Rs 10,000 and a year in jail.

According to sources, dealers often transfer cars to owners prior to registration in order to facilitate quicker vehicle movement out of showrooms. This leads to a widespread misuse of TCs as temporary registration numbers.

According to a department official, because the dealer, not the client, received the TC from the registration authority, the dealer would bear responsibility in the event that the TC car was engaged in an accident or criminal activity. A top officer mentioned a significant crime that was done in Purulia in a TC number. In that instance, the cops detained the dealer first. The standards are intended to protect car dealers from harassment while also promoting public safety. Dealers may operate in a secure atmosphere if they abide by laws and regulations, according to Transport Minister Snehasis Chakraborty.
