3,070 poll workers are assigned to Chamba: DC

Himachal Pradesh’s 2024 Lok Sabha nomination process is set to go off tomorrow, and the district of Chamba is getting ready for voting.

The Kangra parliamentary seat includes four Assembly segments: Churah, Chamba, Dalhousie, and Bhattiyat. The Mandi constituency is in charge of the Bharmour Assembly section. On June 1, the state will hold elections.

Mukesh Repswal, the Chamba Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, said during a news conference on Monday that nominations for the Mandi Lok Sabha seat should be sent to the Mandi DEO, while those for the Kangra Lok Sabha seat may be sent to the Chamba or Kangra DEO.

Repswal spoke on the actions being taken to guarantee a smooth voting process as she discussed the preparations for the approaching elections. He said that training sessions were offered at the sub-divisional level and that polling officer randomization had taken place. Polling officials in Bharmaur and Pangi have been exempted from randomization due to the difficult terrain.

In all, 3,070 poll workers have been assigned across the area, and important authorities have already finished their training. There will be additional training sessions on May 23–24. On May 29–30, polling teams will be randomly assigned under the watchful eyes of observers.

Additionally, Repswal spoke on the randomization of voter-verified paper audit trails (VVPAT) and electronic voting machines (EVMs). The first randomization took place between May 2 and May 3, and on May 3–4, assistant returning officers were assigned. On May 19, 22, and 24, there will be a second randomization and commissioning at the district election officer and assistant district election officer levels.

He announced the establishment of 631 voting places in the district of Chamba. Ten of them will be run by female employees, three by people with disabilities, and five by junior officers. Furthermore, 25 voting locations have been recognized as model locations.

EVMs and VVPATs would be gathered and kept in the safe deposit boxes of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College in Sarol as well as Millennium Polytechnic College for use in the vote counting process. EVMs and VVPATs will be kept for 45 days in the assigned strong rooms after the counting.

Through a variety of programs run by SVEEP teams, efforts are being made to increase voter awareness, particularly in areas with low voter turnout. Repswal said that these kinds of measures would continue in the future to guarantee the highest possible level of voter participation.
