77-year-old Fugitive ‘Saint’ Apprehended by Delhi Police After 27 Years of Eluded Murder Charges

Delhi: According to a Delhi Police officer on Tuesday, a 77-year-old man who had been eluding authorities for 27 years in connection with a murder case was taken into custody in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. The wanted man, Tillu, also known as Ramdas, had been hiding out at several places of worship, disguising himself as a “saint” in order to avoid being apprehended.

The murder case began on February 4, 1997, when Tillu and an accomplice called Ramu are said to have assassinated Kishan Lal in the Tughlakabad extension. On May 5, 1997, Tillu and Ramu were both proclaimed criminals.

According to Amit Goel, deputy commissioner of police (crime branch), “A police squad was entrusted with discovering wanted persons and parole violators implicated in significant offenses. Through a thorough investigation and technology analysis, Tillu—who was sought in the murder case stated earlier—was located.”
The authorities located a cellphone number that kept changing between Haridwar and Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, sacred destinations, after tracing phones connected to Tillu’s family and close friends.

According to investigations, Tillu had taken on the persona of a saint and had been residing in dharamshalas and visiting temples all across the nation.

Goel went on to say, “Following three days of undercover work, the team successfully identified and apprehended Tillu.”

Tillu said during questioning, “I moved to Delhi with my daughter after my wife passed away. During a financial disagreement, Kishan Lal threatened Ramu and me, which resulted in a deadly confrontation.”

After that, Tillu and Ramu left the area with their families. In relation to the ongoing murder investigation, Tillu is now the target of further legal action by the police.
