950 in the TN LS match; Karur wins with 54

There are 950 contenders in the state’s Lok Sabha election, consisting of 874 males and 76 women. The number of Tamil Nadu candidates running for the Lok Sabha is the most it has ever been.

A total of 1,749 nominations were submitted before the March 27 deadline for filing. 1,085 applicants’ papers were approved during review, while 664 nominations were denied. Out of these, 135 nominations were withdrawn before the deadline for candidate withdrawals on Saturday.

In this election, the seat for Karur Lok Sabha had the most candidates (54) followed by South Chennai (41). Namakkal has forty applicants. The constituency of Nagapattinam has the fewest candidates (9).

A total of 96 candidates are running in the reserved seats of Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, the Nilgiris, Chidambaram, Villupuram, Nagapattinam, and Tenkasi. There were almost 800 candidates running in the Lok Sabha elections of 2009, 2014, and 2019 (823 in 2009, 845 in 2014, and 845 in 2019).

Meanwhile, in 209 Assembly seats around the state, women have voted in greater numbers than males, according to the election lists updated as of March 28. Men voters are marginally more numerous than women voters in the following constituencies: Maduravoyal, Harbour, Palacode, Pennagaram, Dharmapuri, Pappirettipatti, Harur, Thalli, Hosur, Veppanahalli, Sozhinganallur, Tirukkoyilur, Ulundurpettai, Rishivandhiyam, Omalur, Mettur, Salem, Sankari, Veerapandi, Tiruppur North, Coimbatore North, Usilampatti, Colachel, Padmanabhapuram, and Killiyoor.
