New Delhi: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the young to strive toward the common goal of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” or self-reliant India, and expressed confidence that the world is confident in India’s ability to give low-cost, high-quality, sustainable, and scalable solutions to global concerns.

The Prime Minister engaged in a video conference with the participants in the grand finale of the Union Ministry of Education’s Smart India Hackathon 2023, stating, “The goal of Smart India Hackathon is to solve the country’s problems and create employment through solutions.” The nation’s young are harvesting the honey of ideas for a developed India via the Smart India Hackathon.

Launched in 2017, the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is a national effort that gives students a forum to address urgent issues facing government ministries and agencies, businesses, and other organizations. This year, 44,000 teams submitted more than 50,000 ideas. Of those, 1,282 teams were selected to compete in the grand finale, where they will present solutions on a range of topics, including heritage and culture, robotics and drones, smart education, space technology, and disaster management.

The Prime Minister said that the world now has higher expectations as a result of India’s Chandrayaan mission during his meeting with the students. “It has altered how people around the world see India. The space-tech sector will need significant advancements in the next ten years. The world is certain that India will provide high-quality, reasonably priced, long-lasting, and expandable answers to global problems,” he said.

According to the PM, India is at a turning moment in its history, and all of our efforts will help build the basis for the country that will exist for the next millennium. The 21st-century Indian nation is advancing under the motto “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, and Jai Anusandhan.”India can only prosper if we all work together. “Aatmanirbhar Bharat must be our objective,” he said.

In conversation with a group of Dayanand Sagar College students in Bengaluru who are trying to figure out how to maintain cyber security, the prime minister said that new technology should be used with caution.

“These have the potential to be quite helpful if utilized properly. But if they are used improperly, it might lead to serious issues. Deepfake films created with the aid of generative AI are something you should be aware of. Because these recordings seem so genuine, we must exercise extreme caution when accepting the veracity of any picture or video. India is prioritizing an international AI framework, he said.

He also spoke with a different NIT Trichy student group that is developing an Internet of Things system for railroad goods. “I am certain that your efforts will pay off for the Indian Railway. The national government is investing hundreds of crores in the Indian Railways during this period of change. We also give logistics a lot of attention,” the PM said.

The Prime Minister said, “We have started the ‘Study in India’ program for students from foreign countries to come to India for higher studies,” after seeing that the team also included students from Bangladesh.

“I am happy that the young generation of the country is working day and night to provide solutions to the challenges facing the country,” the prime minister remarked, expressing gratitude to the youth for taking part in the hackathon. The solutions developed from previous hackathons have shown to be very efficient. Numerous students who have taken part in hackathons have also launched their own businesses. The government and society are benefiting from these businesses and solutions, he said.

He also spoke with another group of students from Gujarat Technological University in Ahmedabad, who were working on a project to create a hazard map of the moon by employing image processing and artificial intelligence to transform the medium-resolution images that the ISRO’s Moonlander had received into super-resolution images. The project’s results will be used to choose a safe landing area and route for the next missions.

The Prime Minister recommended seeking oversight and direction from the ISRO team in addition to other space entrepreneurs operating in the nation. “With the success of Chandrayan 3, India’s space program has become a ray of hope for the world and has changed the outlook of foreign nations towards India,” he said. He also emphasized that the current era is ideal for young people who want to contribute to India’s space sector because the sector has been opened up to the private sector, which will allow young people to thrive.

He also advised that they visit the IN-SPACe headquarters in Ahmedabad and highlighted that ISRO was offering its facilities to modern companies.

The Prime Minister restated that the young innovators’ formative years in India would occur over the next 25 years of Amrit Kaal. He emphasized that all of India’s goals should be to become self-sufficient and to stop importing new things and relying on other countries.

He brought up the military industry as an example of an industry striving for self-sufficiency and said that India must import some defense technology. In addition, he emphasized the significance of independence in semiconductor and chip technologies. Additionally, PM Modi emphasized India’s lofty goals in the fields of quantum technology and hydrogen energy. According to him, the government is placing a lot of focus on all these industries by building a cutting-edge 21st-century ecosystem, but the success of this ecosystem hinges on the success of the next generation.

The Prime Minister, who expressed faith in the nation’s young, urged them to solve any situation with an eye toward achieving Viksit Bharat. “I hope everything you do turns out well. PM Modi continued, “You have to work so that the world follows you.”
