After Gopal Kanda’s acquittal, Geetika Sharma’s brother declares that they are “shocked and scared for our lives”

Ankit Sharma, Geetika Sharma’s brother, said how the Delhi court’s decision to exonerate former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda in the case of aiding her suicide has left the family in “emotional turmoil” after 11 years.

Ankit said, “My father, who is 66 years old, is in a state of shock after the verdict,” and added that they lack the resources to appeal the decision and encouraged the State to do so.

He also said that their lives were in danger. Geetika Sharma, who had formerly worked for MLDR airlines owned by Kanda, was discovered dead on August 5, 2012, at her Ashok Vihar home in northwest Delhi. Sharma said in her suicide letter dated August 4 that Kanda and Aruna Chadha’s harassment was the reason she was taking her own life.

Influential politician Kanda was compelled to retire from his position as minister of state for the home when the complaint against him was filed. Her mother committed suicide six months after Geetika did. “Our family has experienced emotional anguish for 11 years. It has taken an 11-year battle to get this point. Currently, we are afraid for our lives. For us, it poses a danger to our lives, Ankit said PTI.
