Amritsar officer caught by Vigilance Bureau accepting Rs 6L bribe

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) named Raj Kumar, who is in charge of the Kot Khalsa police station in Amritsar city, has been detained by the Vigilance Bureau (VB) for allegedly requesting and receiving a bribe of Rs 6 lakh.

An official state VB spokesman revealed this information here today. According to the spokeswoman, ASI Raj Kumar was apprehended due to an online complaint that New Udham Singh Nagar, Amritsar resident Amanchain Singh filed on the Punjab Government’s anti-corruption action line.

According to the spokesman, the complainant had claimed that the ASI had sought Rs 6 lakh from him in exchange for granting him and his four relatives a clean sheet in an investigation into a murder case that had been reported to the Division B police station.

The accused ASI was found to have accepted a bribe of Rs 6 lakh from the complainant in exchange for having their identities cleared in the murder case, according to the complaint’s inquiry.

According to the spokesman, the Amritsar range’s VB police station has filed a complaint against the ASI under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He indicated that further investigation was ongoing and that the ASI would be presented in court the next day.
