Arvind Kejriwal’s dismissal from the Chief Minister position is sought by a PIL in the Delhi High Court

NEW DELHI: Following Arvind Kejriwal’s detention in an alleged money laundering case related to the excise policy, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Delhi High Court on Friday, calling for Kejriwal’s removal from office as chief minister of Delhi.
The appeal brought attention to the fact that Kejriwal was detained by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged liquor policy fraud.

It said that, in the case prior to Kejriwal’s detention, the High Court had earlier rejected granting him temporary protection.
After Kejriwal was arrested, Delhi minister Atishi said in interviews on several platforms that Kejriwal would not resign and was ready to lead from behind bars if needed. She said, “Arvind Kejriwal was the Delhi CM, is the CM, and will remain the CM; he will not resign.”
In the plea, Surjit Singh Yadav, acting via attorney Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh, said that Kejriwal’s holding the position of Chief Minister of Delhi after his detention in the money laundering case damaged the government’s reputation and public trust. It warned that “Kejriwal staying on as the CM could impede the legal process, disrupt justice, and cause a breakdown of the state’s constitutional machinery.”
The case raised concerns about the administration of the National Capital Territory of Delhi and highlighted the implications of Kejriwal’s continued term in the face of legal challenges. As the case develops, the court’s ruling on this issue is anticipated.
