As UDF’s campaign chairman in Kerala, Ramesh Chennithala assumes leadership and plans to win all of the state’s votes

Ramesh Chennithala, a member of the Congress Working Committee, was named the party’s Kerala campaign committee chairman, meaning that the former Leader of the Opposition would lead the UDF in the next legislative elections.

The new job, which he accepted from the Congress central leadership, together with his position as the head of party affairs in Maharashtra, show that he still has the support of the party’s elite members. Shortly after K Muraleedharan was declared the party’s candidate for the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat, Chennithala was promoted to the role.

With the exception of T N Prathapan, all current Members of Parliament have been nominated by the Congress in an attempt to repeat its performance from 2019, when it won 19 of 20 seats. According to party insiders, Chennithala’s influence within the party would increase if the UDF won handily.

In addition, he oversees party activities in Maharashtra, and his future chances will be enhanced by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) doing better in the elections. Chennithala was occupied in negotiating the seat-sharing agreement between MVA and its Maharashtra constituents.

Given that Chennithala is concentrated on state politics, the UDF’s win in the next elections would undoubtedly aid him in redefining his political status. The state’s entire party would support him, according to political analyst K Baburajan.

Party insiders stated that when negotiations over the Congress candidates in Thrissur and Vadakara came to a standstill, the central leadership got in touch with Chennithala, who was in the state, to sort things out. He was called to New Delhi to continue the conversation.

At the party headquarters in Delhi at the time were Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan and Congress State President K Sudhakaran. According to a source, the party decided on the candidates after consulting with Chennithala, the state’s most senior leader.

Upon his arrival in Kochi from Mumbai on Thursday, Chennithala said reporters that the party will be using high-tech tools for its LS election campaign. “A high-tech polling effort will be used by Congress. We are getting ready,” he said, adding that UDF will get 20 of the 20 seats this year.
