At ESIC Hospital, the first robotic kidney transplant was performed

The ESIC Medical College and institution here has performed the first robotic kidney transplant in any government-owned Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) institution.

A hospital representative said that this was the first kind of procedure performed in any ESIC facility in the nation and that both the patient and the donor were in perfect condition.

For the first time at the hospital, a team including doctors Jitendra Kumar, Saurabh Joshi, Varun Katiyar, and Nishant from Accord Hospital carried out the procedure using a robotic arm technology.

For the kidney transplant, Chandan Giri, 28, who had been receiving dialysis, gave up his mother’s kidney. He is the oldest of three siblings and a resident of Sector 18, Gurugram. He works for a private firm in Gurugram. The patient and his family did not suffer any charges since he is enrolled with the ESIC.

The patient required monthly dialysis after experiencing renal difficulties for a year, according to senior kidney disease expert Dr. Jitendra Kumar.

He was requested to get the kidney transplant performed at ESIC hospital even though it was suggested that he have one.

Robotic technology was used by the physicians to do the transplant successfully on Saturday. According to transplant surgeon Dr. Saurabh Joshi, relatively little blood occurred during the procedure since a tiny incision was made using a telescope. Over three hours were spent on the surgery.
