Attibele cracker shop fire incident: CM Siddaramaiah orders officials to check firecracker godowns and stores around the state

Following the Attibele firecracker accident, which resulted in the deaths of 14 persons, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed authorities to investigate every firecracker godown and store in the state and to revoke their licenses if security precautions are not observed.
In Bengaluru’s Attibele town on Saturday, a fire broke out at a business selling fireworks, leaving 14 people dead.
In a meeting held here on Tuesday, the chief minister said: “Inspection should be carried out throughout the state, action should be taken against all godowns and shops that do not take safety measures, and their license should be cancelled.”

The Tehsildar, Inspector, and Regional Fire Officer received letters of suspension in the Attibele matter from the Chief Minister as well.

The government has “taken this case seriously” and has advised the officers to use extreme care, he added.

“When awarding a license under the Explosives Act, you must use caution. Who is accountable for the fourteen lives lost? You’ve read the Act, right? It should be determined if they meet every need there,” the CM added.

District commissioners, police superintendents, and firefighters should now check the sites before granting licenses, he added.

“The choice to issue the license should be made after ensuring that the inspection report is accurate. The godown in this instance was not granted authorization. The audience was informed that authorization had only been granted for sale, according to Siddaramaiah.

In Bangalore, there are two different license kinds. Both permanent and transient shops are awarded permits.

After receiving a letter of support from the BBMP, Electricity, Fire, Traffic, and Law and Order Departments, licenses are granted. Every five years, licenses are issued. For renewal, no letter of opposition is needed. Updates for the explosives controller. Regulations need to be changed in this respect.

The CM recommended sending a letter to the federal government over this. The CM also recommended altering the state-specific regulation.

“It is urged that the Atthibele-Hosur border region maintain a tight eye on firecrackers. Take all necessary steps to adhere closely to the court’s directives in this respect, he said.

DK Sivakumar, the deputy chief minister, also attended the meeting. According to Sivakumar, “In the interest of safety, the use of firecrackers at political conventions and wedding ceremonies should be prohibited.”

Director General of Police Alok Mohan, Chief Secretary of the State Government Vandita Sharma, Deputy Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Rajneesh Goyal, Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department Rakesh Singh, BBMP Commissioner Tushar Girinath, Bangalore City District Collector K.A.
