Before the G20 Summit, the Delhi Police conducts a helicopter slithering exercise

In preparation for the G20 Summit, the Delhi Police trainee commandos practiced helicopter slithering on Friday, according to authorities.

The second batch of commandos’ helicopter slithering, according to the authorities, took place at the Delhi Police Academy at Jharoda Kalan from 9 am to 11 am.

The G20 Summit, which will take place in the national capital on September 9 and 10, is preparing to take place in Delhi.

According to authorities, the recently hired trainee commandos of the city police displayed their expertise in the helicopter slithering exercise on Friday at the Delhi Police Academy (DPA) in Jharoda Kalan as a crucial component of their training.

A Border Security Force (BSF) MI-17 IV helicopter was used to perform the “Helicopter Slithering” field tactics practice training, according to the Delhi Police, which also included 162 constables and 19 sub-inspectors, three of whom were women.

At DPA, the constables completed a three-month commando training program. According to authorities, this demanding training, which was carried out under the supervision of BSF Air-Wing and commando trainers from the school, was crucial to improving law enforcement’s readiness for the G20 Summit.

According to authorities, slithering from a helicopter is a particularly dangerous practice that puts the pilot and anyone descending from the aircraft at serious risk from the strong wind gusts produced by the chopper’s rotors.

They said that a special helipad had been painstakingly constructed on the school grounds to accommodate this training session.

Newly hired constables and sub-inspectors shown their extraordinary talent and tenacity during the exercise by successfully sliding off helicopters at heights of 7 and 10 meters, the instructors said.

In the most recent training exercise, which took place on May 30, 90 commandos—55 men and 35 women SWAT commandos—also practiced helicopter slithering. They said that 500 commandos in all have previously undergone training for this operation.

According to Sunil Kumar Gautam, Special Commissioner of Police (Training), “People are instructed to de-board the helicopter in the last lap of training. Our commandos use a rope to descend while our helicopters are stationed at a 15-meter distance away. They feel confident as a result. These will be set up at a number of designated locations during the G20 meeting, from which they may move and conduct security operations.
