Bengaluru might have mild rain beginning in mid-April, according to IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) offers residents of Bengaluru some optimism despite the city’s oppressive heatwave this year by predicting rain in the second week of April.

On Tuesday, April 2, the city recorded a sweltering 37.6 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature in the previous eight years and the third hottest in the previous fifteen years.

A Prasad, senior scientist at the IMD, Bengaluru, highlighted the elements causing the temperature to climb. “The El Nino effect, which had an index exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius last year, is currently ongoing with a slightly decreased index of 1.1,” he said. Above-average temperatures and less rainfall are typical during El Nino years, especially across Peninsular India.”

Rainfall usually arrives in the city around the first week of April. However, the rain has not come yet this year. The senior official did note that pre-monsoon rains are anticipated in the city, but with less precipitation.

The city will have brief reprieve from the heat during the pre-monsoon, with temperatures decreasing by as much as a few degrees Celsius. IMD anticipated that April will bring modest rain to the city, with a total of 61.7 mm expected. Since the beginning of April, Bengaluru has continuously had above-normal temperatures, even though the average temperature for the month is typically 34 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the greatest maximum temperature of 38.3 degrees Celsius was recorded at the KIA on Friday, April 5.
