Bengaluru, take note! The first driverless metro operated by Namma Metro arrives in your city and runs on the Yellow Line

The first autonomous metro train has arrived in Bengaluru, marking a significant step towards revolutionizing public transportation in the nation. On Wednesday, the train—which had six coaches—arrived at the Hebbagodi depot. China produced the autonomous metro train, which was then transported to a port in Chennai. It was then sent to Bengaluru’s Electronic City, sometimes referred to as South Bengaluru’s IT center. After leaving Chennai Port, the coaches were driven to their ultimate destination.

The train will travel on the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Yellow Line, which connects RV Road to Electronic City via Silk Board. The remaining 216 coaches will be split between the Purple and Green lines, with 90 of them being stationed on the yellow line.

Bengaluru’s public transportation network is predicted to undergo a complete transformation with the arrival of the autonomous metro train. These trains, with their cutting-edge automation and technology, will provide commuters a reliable and efficient way to go about. Human mistake will be eliminated by the autonomous operation, guaranteeing a seamless and timely travel.

According to a BMRCL officer who spoke with news agency PTI, the coaches were made in China and transported to Chennai. They were then taken to the Hebbagodi depot located in Electronic City. The depot will act as the hub for the autonomous metro train’s operations and maintenance.

Ninety of the 216 cars we bought will run on the Yellow line to create 15 trains. The item that has come is a prototype, according to BMRCL.

As part of its Phase-II development, the Namma Metro’s Yellow Line will have 16 elevated stations in total. The 18.8-kilometer-long Yellow Line was established in 2017. Due to construction difficulties, the initial opening date of January 2023 was postponed twice: first to April 2024 and then to July of current year.

At the moment, autonomous trains are run by Delhi Metro on the Magenta and Pink lines. When the Delhi Metro’s Golden Line between Aerocity and Tughlakabad is finished, autonomous trains will also be able to travel along it.
