Bengaluru: Three students commit a robbery but are caught as their car receives a ticket after a signal jump

On September 28, three students are accused of committing a theft at a cell phone retailer in Sanjaynagar, Bengaluru. The group jumped many traffic lights as they fled in their car, creating challans that made it possible for the police to find them 36 hours later.

Ajay Kumar, Prabhu, and Mounesh, the three defendants, are second-year BCom students at various private institutions. They are all 20 years old. According to a report, the trio comes from the HSR Layout and has no criminal background.

Ajay and Prabhu needed to pay Rs 50,000 to cover damages they caused to a vehicle in an accident last year. The two caused a damage in the automobile by ramming it with their two-wheeler in Koramangala. The two youngsters decided to cover the damages, which could have cost up to Rs 50,000, after the owner of the vehicle threatened to file a police report against them.

According to an investigating officer, the two had trouble coming up with money. The officer continued: Adding Mounesh to their group, the three decided to rob a mobile store in order to steal the devices and rapidly arrange the money.

One of them saw the store on New BEL Road. Watches and computers were available in the mobile store. They studied internet tutorials two months ago on how to open store shutter locks. They repeatedly went to the store to make sure there were no CCTV cameras present. Additionally, they went to the store one evening, measured the locks, and bought a cutter,” the officer was cited as saying by ToI.

The group arrived in the area at 10:30 p.m. on September 28 in a minivan as per their pre-loot plan, and they parked the vehicle close to the business. They put a tarp over the shop’s front before kicking through the shutter, and they entered after that.

Their timing of the severe rain, which resulted in fewer people moving on the road, further improved their strategy.

They immediately left the shop after robbing over a dozen computers, 11 Samsung phones, 29 iPhones, nearly a dozen handycams, over 200 watches, and other items worth over Rs 50 lakh. They then packed everything into their minivan and left in less than 30 minutes.

According to reports, another officer said that the trio’s vehicle ran four red lights as it passed the intersection of New BEL Road and the Sadashivanagar police station, adding that the infraction aided the police in their investigation.

The shop’s owner complained about the theft on September 29. The cops checked the CCTV video of all the nearby traffic signals after assuming that the items would have been driven away in a car.

“We suspected the car’s occupants because of the way it jumped the signal. The identical automobile had been parked next to the store, according to further CCTV video from the business, the officer added. On the morning of September 30, the police were directed to Ajay Kumar while tracking the automobile, and as a result, he broke down and admitted the truth, he continued.

The homes of the three were where the stolen goods were stored.
