Bhashini will translate 22 languages as part of the permitted expansion of Digital India

The extension of the Digital India initiative, which was introduced on July 1st, 2015 to allow the delivery of services to residents digitally, was authorized on Wednesday by the Union Cabinet, which is presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister for railroads, communications, electronics, and information technology, and Anurag Thakur, the minister for information and broadcasting, both made the announcement at a news conference.

 

The extension would cost a total of Rs 14,903 crore. The program’s demonstrated effectiveness in accomplishing its goals led to the expansion being planned.

 

 

6.25 lakh IT workers will now be able to retrain and upgrade their skills via the Future Skills Prime Program, while 2.65 lakh people will get information security training through the Information Security & Education Awareness Phase (ISEA) Program.

 

The Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG) app/platform will expand, making 540 more services accessible. Over 1,700 services are now offered on UMANG;

 

The National SuperComputer Mission will install nine more supercomputers. In addition to the existing 18 supercomputers, this. The 22 Schedule 8 languages will be added to Bhashini, an AI-enabled multilingual translation service that is presently accessible in 10 languages.

 

The National Knowledge Network (NKN), which links 1,787 educational institutions, will be modernized; MSMEs and other organizations will now have access to the DigiLocker digital document verification service; and Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities will provide assistance for 1,200 start-ups.

 

On top of that, 12 crore college students will begin taking cyber-awareness courses, and new initiatives in the field of cyber security, such as the creation of tools and the integration of more than 200 sites with the National Cyber Coordination Center, will be undertaken. These centres of excellence will focus on artificial intelligence in the areas of sustainable cities, healthy living, and agriculture.

 

The measures made today would benefit India’s IT and electronics ecosystem while also boosting the country’s digital economy and driving digital service access.
