Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, a former chief minister of Bengal, is still in critical condition

The former chief minister of West Bengal, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, was responding to therapy, although his health remained severe, according to medical sources on Sunday.

On Saturday, Bhattacharjee was checked into the hospital. According to hospital sources, the former chief minister is now receiving antibiotics and invasive intensive ventilation. The former chief minister apparently has kidney-related illnesses in addition to lower respiratory tract infection and type-II respiratory failure.

Bhattacharjee was first placed on non-invasive ventilation following admission, according to sources knowledgeable of the incident. On account of his serious condition, he had to be placed on invasive ventilation late on Saturday night. He was continued on continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) assistance after being admitted.

An eight-member medical board, which will meet again on Sunday at 11.30 a.m. to deliberate on the course of treatment and following steps, will include Bhattacharjee’s personal doctor.

He had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for a while.

His health has reportedly been declining over the last several days, according to sources. He did not, however, take the doctor’s suggestion and enter the hospital. But as of Saturday afternoon, his health began rapidly worsening and his oxygen saturation level began rapidly declining.

Finally, the medical staff caring for him decided to quickly arrange for his hospital admission. A critical care ambulance sent from the hospital carried him there.

According to CPI(M) sources close to the former chief minister, if he had heeded the doctor’s recommendation to be hospitalized a few days ago when the signs of deterioration first appeared, the former chief minister’s health may not have worsened as much.

According to sources, Bhattacharjee has previously been taken to the hospital but has always resisted being kept there and even insisted on being released quickly.
