The Designated Officer shall chair the District Level Committee, which will examine applications submitted in accordance with the statute. After confirming the papers, the appointed official will give the oath of loyalty to the petitioner.

The officer will then electronically sign the oath of loyalty and send it to the Empowered Committee along with certification that the document was verified.

CAN A candidate not show up in person to take the oath of allegiance?

The District Level Committee may forward an applicant’s application to the Empowered Committee for review of rejection if they are unable to attend in person despite many attempts.

Passports, birth certificates, and other identification papers issued by the governments of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or Pakistan are among the needed documents listed. These records have to demonstrate that the applicant arrived in India by December 31, 2014, at the latest.

The Center will accept valid or expired papers from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan for anyone lacking the necessary documentation. Additionally acceptable are certifications or residency permits from the Foreigners Registration Officer in India or the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer in the United States.

West Bengal, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Bihar are just a few of the states that have already approved resolutions opposing the Act. Widespread demonstrations against the CAA’s passage in 2019 and 2020 were triggered by worries of migrant marginalization and perceived legitimization.

During the application process, an online fee of Rs 50 must be paid. There are no additional fees associated with the citizenship application procedure, according to the government.
