Classmate used a sword to strike the girl

Officials reported on Thursday that a 14-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted with a blade by a classmate close to their school in the Gulabi Bagh neighborhood of north Delhi.

The event happened on April 29 next to a government school; a video of it went viral on social media, and the victim’s parents have called for harsh punishment for those responsible.

The issue was brought to light on Wednesday when Delhi Police opened a probe after taking suo moto notice of an alleged video that appeared online and featured a girl with severe facial injuries.

A senior police official had previously said, “Initially, we got to know that a scuffle broke out between a few girls of a government school outside the school premises and one of them hit another girl with a sharp-edged thing.”

The victim reported to the authorities that on April 29, when she and her classmates were eating lunch, at around 11:20 am, a group of females stole her friend’s tiffin and made off with it.

“They were requested to return it by my pal. Then they began mistreating us,” she said. The woman went on to say that after her classmate assaulted her with a blade, they got into a verbal altercation over attempts to diffuse the situation.

The victim’s family, however, claimed that no one from the school assisted her after the assault.

“My daughter’s face required 17 stitches. She still has a major medical issue. The victim’s mother said that nobody even assisted her in getting to the hospital after the incident.

“My sister attends Class 9 classes. She was attempting to calm everyone down when her buddies got into a brawl. However, she was assaulted. The victim’s older sister said that the police needed to take firm action against them.

The police said, “Since everyone visible in the video is a juvenile, we have taken action under the Juvenile Justice Act.”
