CM Sarma on Akbaruddin Owaisi threatening cop: “Matter would have settled within 5 minutes in Assam”

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam and a BJP politician, lashed out at Akbaruddin Owaisi for reportedly threatening a police officer in Hyderabad, claiming that if the incident had occurred in Assam, it would have been resolved in “five minutes.”

Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), and his brother Akbaruddin Owaisi were charged on Wednesday for verbally abusing a police inspector who was requesting that they adhere to the model code of conduct for the assembly elections.

“This would have been resolved in five minutes if it had occurred in Assam. Telangana’s politics of appeasement prevent the BRS and Congress from speaking out.People would feel scared if you can openly threaten the police, the chief minister of Assam said on Wednesday.

The chief minister of Assam pleaded with the Indian Election Commission to “cancel” Akbaruddin Owaisi’s candidacy.

Earlier, Akbaruddin Owaisi had been the subject of a case, according to Rohit Raju, DCP South East zone.

The police officer said, “The case has been booked under section 353 (obstructing official duties) IPC and other relevant sections.”

In response to the formal complaint filed against him, Akbaruddin said, “The police and DCP are lying.” First of all, I have video of him (the policeman) entering the stage. If I deliver a speech after 10 p.m., I may be arrested by the police. However, it is improper to interrupt a public meeting and declare that it has ended. This is not something the police should do.

During a campaign speech in Lalitabagh, Hyderabad, the AIMIM leader ordered the policeman to “leave” the area, suggesting that if he gave a “signal” to his followers, the inspector would have to “run” from the location.

Do you really believe that even though I was surrounded by guns and knives, I became weak? I still have a lot of bravery. I have the next five minutes to talk, and nobody can interrupt me. Shall we force him to run? You have to run if I give the signal. They come like way, I think, to weaken us,” Akbaruddin said.

Regarding this, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi also justified his brother’s comments, stating that the official should not have interfered since there were still “five minutes” till the end of the day’s campaigning period.

The candidate from the Chandrayangutta seat is Akbaruddin. The seat has been a bastion of support for the AIMIM, having been won by the party in both 2014 and 2018.

On November 30, Telangana will have a single phase of elections.

On December 3, the votes for Telangana and the four other states that will be going to polls will be counted.
