Coimbatore: TWADB is working on repairing the GN Mills flyover’s dug-up service road

The service road of the GN Mills overpass on Mettupalayam Road in Coimbatore was dug up more than a month ago to install pipeline for Pillur Scheme 3, but the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWADB) has not yet fixed it.

One of the largest projects the Tamil Nadu government completed in the Coimbatore district at an estimated cost of ~779.86 crore was the Pillur Scheme 3. Under the direction of the TWAD board, the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has been the project’s beneficiary.

The Pillur Scheme 3 drinking water supply project was started in 2018 and opened last month in order to meet the water demands of the newly incorporated regions of the CCMC and by analyzing the population of the city in 2040.

The TWAD Board excavated a 300-meter section of the service road under the GN Mills flyover on the Mettupalayam Road in order to construct a pipeline as part of the project. Subsequently, after the renovation was finished, the government neglected the run-down road, which caused problems for drivers. “The authorities’ incompetence has caused the whole length to become a dust bowl. The service road was dug up by authorities about a month ago. They haven’t corrected it yet. This horrible stretch of road forces drivers to commute, which breaks our backs. The relevant department has to address it as quickly as possible, according to Vellakinar driver K Jayanth Kumar. Officials from the State Highways Department’s National Highways section disclosed that the TWAD Board had not taken any action in spite of repeated requests to restore the route.

Once the project was finished, the administration neglected to maintain the crumbling road, which caused problems for drivers. S. Senbagapandiyan is shown.
We have wet mix on top of the fractured road right now, a TWAD Board representative from the Pillur Scheme 3 division informed TNIE when they were questioned about it. We have to give it a few days to settle down. After the problematic area of the length settles, we’ll install BT, pave a new route over it, and return the road to its pre-problem state.
