Congress in Telangana clears eight names; announcement pending

As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, the Congress has accelerated the selection of candidates for Telangana’s 17 seats in response to impatient hopefuls.

On Thursday, the Central Election Committee of the party convened at the AICC headquarters in Delhi, with the attendance of Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

Eight candidates in Telangana have had their names authorized by the CEC, according to sources inside the Congress. These are the only candidates from their sectors who were running for the tickets.

The finalized candidates are as follows: Vikarabad ZP chairperson Patnam Suneetha Mahender Reddy from Chevella, MLC T Jeevan Reddy from Nizamabad, former MP Suresh Shetkar from Zaheerabad, Ch Vamshichand Reddy from Mahbubnagar, Neelam Madhu from Medak, Kunduru Raghuveer Reddy from Nalgonda, Bonthu Sridevi from Secunderabad, and G Vamshi Vivek Venkataswamy from Peddapalli.

Sources say that the remaining candidates will probably be decided upon at the end of this month or during the third week of the conference.

The state officials of the party anticipate heated debates for the Warangal ticket, with Addanki Dayakar and Dommati Sambaiah’s names being discussed.

The distribution of tickets is anticipated to be contingent upon the dynamics of reserved sectors in the three state-reserved Lok Sabha districts, specifically concerning the Madiga and Mala equation.

Former MP Mallu Ravi and former MLA of Alampur SA Sampath Kumar are vying for the seat in the Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency, subject to the Madiga and Mala equation in segment distribution.

Algireddy Praveen Reddy, a former Husnabad MLA, and Velichala Rajender Rao are awaiting their tickets for the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency. His prospects of receiving the ticket have strengthened as a result of Praveen Reddy’s abrupt withdrawal from the Assembly elections, which allowed Ponnam Prabhakar to win and join the Revanth Reddy Cabinet as a minister.

Finding competent candidates in the Adilabad and Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seats is a difficulty for the party. The Congress intends to run Kancharla Chandrasekhar Reddy in Malkajgiri, where he is anticipated to face fierce battle from BJP politician and former minister Eatala Rajender. However, the party does not have a strong candidate in Adilabad.

The party had not made a decision on the Lok Sabha seats of Bhongir and Khammam, due to rumors that Rahul Gandhi will run from Telangana.

Sources, however, indicate that Rahul Gandhi would once again choose to run for the Amethi and Wayanad seats rather than the Telangana seat.

It is anticipated that this move would facilitate the party’s selection of candidates for the remaining Telangana seats at the next meeting.

It is anticipated that the first list of applicants will be made public in two or three days. A Revanth Reddy, the chief minister of the Congress, addressed a public gathering from his home district of Mahbubnagar to begin the party’s election campaign.
