Congress pledges to provide women a cash transfer of Rs 1 lakh and a 50% quota in central government positions

The Congress on Wednesday issued five promises for women ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. These include a 50% quota in all new hires for central government employment and yearly direct cash transfers of Rs 1 lakh to one lady from each of the poorest households in the nation.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said in a post on X that the party has unveiled the “Nari Nyay” guarantee, which calls for the establishment of a new agenda for the nation’s women. Kharge said that the Congress has already declared its commitment to youth justice, farmer justice, and participatory justice.

“Our guarantees are not just empty promises and statements, it goes without saying,” he said in his Hindi Twitter post.

“Our statements are unchangeable. From 1926 to the present, when our opponents were still in their infancy, we have been issuing manifestos and keeping our word,” the speaker said.

“All of you keep giving your blessings to the Congress party and strengthen our hands in this fight to save democracy and the Constitution,” Kharge said.

The statements were made by former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at a “women conference” in Dhule, Maharashtra.

One lady from each low-income household would get an annual aid of Rs 1 lakh via direct cash transfer under the party’s “Mahalakshmi” promise.

Additionally, the Congress will guarantee “Aadhi aabaadi, poora haq,” which stipulates that women would be given preference for 50% of all new hires in central government positions.

According to Kharge, the Center would treble its monthly payment to ASHA, anganwadi, and midday meal workers under the terms of the “Shakti ka Samman” promise.

The Congress will designate a “adhikaar maitri” in each panchayat as part of the “Adhikar Maitri” promise. This person will act as a paralegal, educating women about their legal rights and supporting them in exercising them.

The Congress-led Center will quadruple the number of working women’s hostels in the nation, with at least one in each district, as part of the “Savitri Bai Phule Hostels” promise.

“At the Mahila Melawa Meeting in Dhule today, @RahulGandhi presented the five assurances for Nari Nyay, which were disclosed by @INCIndia President @kharge ji.

The assurances for Kisan Nyay, Hissedari Nyay, and Yuva Nyay were already declared, according to a post on X by general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), Jairam Ramesh.
