Congress seeks a leader in Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi to fill the vacuum left by Preneet Kaur

According to an internal study conducted by the party’s high leadership, Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi is a well-liked Patialian figure for several parliamentary segments.

It has been noted that after leaving the AAP in 2016, the former MP received 1,61,645 votes in the 2019 general election, which has upset several other contenders. In the same year, the Nawan Punjab Party was founded, and he ran under its banner.

According to a top PPCC official, the party was searching for a leader to take over in Patiala after the overthrow of former chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh in 2021 and the entry of his wife Preneet Kaur into the BJP. At first, prominent leaders’ names were making the rounds, like Lal Singh and Vijay Inder Singla. Amrinder Raja Warring, the president of the PPCC, has been asking for feedback on Dr. Gandhi’s popularity for the last several weeks.

In an attempt to repair the damage done to the party, the BJP lured in Dr. Gandhi and forced him to join in Delhi after incumbent MP Ravneet Bittu joined. OBC leaders in the Congress are pushing for sufficient representation in the distribution of tickets to their group in light of Dr. Gandhi’s entry into the party. The leaders are said to have written to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge in this respect, citing the OBCs’ 32% vote share.
