Current electricity rate will remain in place

The Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TS-ERC) issued orders on Friday that the current domestic power tariff will remain in effect as of April 1. This is because the distribution companies (discoms) have asked for an extra three months to submit their aggregate revenue requirements (ARRs) and tariff proposals for the 2024–2025 fiscal year.

The TSSPDCL and TSNPDCL had applied to the ERC to request permission to issue zero bills to qualified customers under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, as well as to extend the application of the retail supply tariff (RST) and cross subsidy surcharge (CSS) after the previous tariff order expires on March 31, 2024.

On January 30, 2024, the Discoms requested in writing from the ERC an extension of three months for the submission of ARRs and tariff proposals for 2024–2025.

Additionally, the administration issued a GO after implementing the Gruha Jyothi plan in the state, which offers free power to qualifying home users. Customers that qualify are not getting any invoices for the month of March.

The Discoms requested more time from ERC and informed them that they were finalizing the ARR, tariff proposals, and CSS proposals.

Additionally, the Discoms requested authorization from the ERC to provide zero bills to all qualified Gruha Jyothi program participants.

On the other hand, the ERC agreed to address the scheme problem independently in a separate process and allowed Discoms to collect the current tariff as of April 1.
