Dalvir Singh Goldy, a former Dhuri MLA, leaves Congress

Dalvir Singh Goldy, the former lawmaker from Dhuri who was denied the ticket from the Sangrur parliamentary district, resigned from the Congress today, dealing a blow to the party.

Senior Congressman Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who had previously appeased Goldy at his home before starting his campaign, has been nominated by the party.

Resigning with a sad heart, the former MLA expressed his dissatisfaction with the state leadership. A number of officials expressed concern that the resignation of the former MLA may affect the party’s campaign in the Sangrur seat, where Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had served as a representative twice.

Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, the head of the PCC, said a few days earlier that the party had appeased all leaders who were unhappy.

The former MLA has already questioned the standards used to choose a candidate for the Sangrur seat. He had said that he will continue to support party candidate Khaira and fight for the Congress.

“When I was put up against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the 2022 Assembly election, it was unnecessary to put on a huge face. I was invited to run in the parliamentary by-election for Sangrur. I received a ticket guarantee for the general election in 2024. But being a devoted soldier, I bow before the gathering. The former lawmaker had said, “I am not among those who will leave the party on seeing an opportunity.”
