‘Delhi Chalo’ march: ‘Govt not honest, wasting time,’ farmers complain after unsuccessful negotiations with the government

Following the failure of negotiations with the government, up to 200 farmer unions are making their way towards the nation’s capital as part of the “Delhi Chalo” protest march. Farmers have said that the Modi administration is not honest and is only looking to squander time.

“The government had committed to addressing half of our requests in writing two years before. We want a peaceful resolution to the problem. But the administration isn’t being real. After discussions, a farmer’s representative told reporters, “They just want to waste time.”

Reportedly, the government granted the requests of the farmers, which included the revocation of the Electricity Act 2020, payment to the families of farmers slain in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, and the dismissal of accusations brought against them during the 2020 demonstrations.

But three main demands—passage of a legislation guaranteeing MSP, execution of the Swaminathan Commission findings, and cancellation of agricultural loan—caused the midnight discussions to collapse.

To prevent farmers from marching into the nation’s capital, the BJP-led administration in Haryana has blocked the border with Punjab by erecting barriers and laying nails over the pavement.

Similar to this, substantial cement blocks, iron grills, and big containers have been used to close Delhi’s boundaries.

on the meanwhile, hundreds of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh are traveling into Delhi on tractors and other vehicles.

According to some accounts, the farmers are removing the barricading using hydraulic equipment in their cars. The farmers promised that in less than 30 minutes, the barriers would be taken down.

The fact that the farmers are bringing necessities like gas tanks and rations serves as a clear reminder of the 2020 demonstrations. The farmers said that they are ready to fight for their rights for a very long time.

Section 144 has been enforced across the nation’s capital by the Delhi Police, and rallies of any type are prohibited till March 12.

Significant numbers of police officers have been stationed along the borders of Tikri, Singhu, and Ghazipur.
