Delhi excise scam: K Kavitha is placed in judicial detention till April 23 by the court

BRS leader K. Kavitha was sent into judicial detention till April 23 by a Delhi court on Monday. Kavitha was detained in connection with a corruption case related to the purported Delhi excise policy scandal.

The daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and placed in the Tihar Jail.

When the judge’s initial order for her three-day police custody expired, the CBI brought the accused before the court and requested her JC.

She did not need to be subjected to any further in-custody questioning, the CBI informed the court. In opposition to the police petition, attorney Nitesh Rana, who was defending Kavitha with Deepak Nagar, said that there were insufficient reasons to keep her in jail since she was no longer needed for custodial questioning.

Kavitha was interrogated by CBI agents inside the jail recently, after approval from a special court. The BRS leader was questioned regarding the documents pertaining to a land deal and the WhatsApp conversations that were found on co-accused Buchi Babu’s phone. Following this, it was purported that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received kickbacks totaling Rs 100 crore in order to influence the excise policy for the national capital in favor of the liquor lobby.

Kavitha, 46, was placed in judicial custody after the ED detained her on March 15 at her Hyderabad home in Banjara Hills.
