Did Nitish Kumar Fight ‘INDIA’ For The Opposition Alliance’s Name?

The opposition parties resolved to compete against the National Democratic Alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by naming their alliance “INDIA” during their second meeting in Bengaluru. According to accounts, Nitish Kumar required a little bit more persuasion than the other leaders before they all agreed on the name.

Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance would be known as “INDIA,” according to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who made the announcement on Tuesday.

Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, allegedly objected to the term INDIA during the name-decision process. Additionally, he apparently has concerns about maintaining the abbreviation for the governing alliance, NDA, in it.

According to reports, left-wing leaders originally expressed a lack of support and recommended alternatives.

After receiving advice and approval from everyone, the name INDIA was finally decided. According to reports, Nitish Kumar, one of the last to change his mind, said: “All right, if all of you are okay with it (the name INDIA), then it is fine.”

According to the sources, Mamata Banerjee, Rahul Gandhi, and Uddhav Thackeray are being given credit for the name. According to certain sources, Mamata Banerjee gave her blessing to Rahul Gandhi’s concept.

Thol Thirumavalavan, the leader of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, informed the media that Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, had suggested the name INDIA for the opposition coalition. After much deliberation, the name “Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance” was chosen.

Jitendra Awhad, the head of the Nationalist Congress Party, allegedly said that Rahul Gandhi came up with the proposal. Rahul Gandhi proposed calling this coalition INDIA during the opposition parties’ current conference in Bangalore. He was well admired for his inventiveness. It was agreed upon by all parties, and they all made the decision to run as INDIA in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

‘Jeetega Bharat’ will be the opposition alliance’s campaign slogan for the 2024 Lok Sabha election, according to PTI reports.

The 26 opposition parties will next gather in Mumbai, where Uddhav Thackeray will welcome them. According to the coalition, a secretariat would be established in Delhi for the Lok Sabha elections.
