DUSU applauds the Center’s decision to provide Rs. 272 cr for a dormitory for working women

The national government’s plan to provide Rs 272 crore for residential housing for working women on the University of Delhi (DU) campus was applauded on Friday by the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU).

According to the DUSU, “many working professionals who are also studying will greatly benefit from the hostel.”

According to a female DUSU member, the working women’s hostel has long been a desire from the student body. “In addition to guaranteeing safety, the action will push women professionals to pursue further education,”

The fund has been designated by the ministry of women and child development for residential housing for girls and working women who are enrolled at the University of Delhi. With reference to the Nirbhaya Fund, the budget has been approved.

In keeping with PM Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat goal, this project gives working women and girls who want to pursue higher education more authority. 1,000 beds with improved security, CCTV monitoring, and gender-sensitive facilities would be provided under this initiative, the Union minister Smriti Irani said on social media on Thursday night. She made the news at Delhi University’s north campus at the Vikas Bharat Ambassador-Nari Shakti Conclave.

Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan praised the endeavor and said that it would motivate more women to pursue higher education and contribute to the growth of the country. “Modern lodging with gender-sensitive amenities and improved security measures will create an atmosphere where #NariShakti can prosper and flourish,” he said.

A budget of Rs 67.71 crore has been set aside by the DU to install WiFi in around 90 DU institutions as well as a new ladies’ dormitory in Mukherjee Nagar, northwest Delhi.

The Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) loan corpus of Rs 938.33 crore that the institution obtained in October of last year would be used to support the completion of the project. “The HEFA has approved a loan share of Rs 261.33 crore from this corpus to initiate the construction of a building for the Faculty of Technology and to set up the WiFi network.”
