Presenting her before a court here on Thursday, the CBI requested five days of police detention for Bharat Rasthra Samithi (BRS) leader K. Kavitha, who was detained in connection with a corruption case related to the purported Delhi excise policy scam.

According to them, the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao was being imprisoned at Tihar Jail after her apprehension by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Kavitha was not assisting with the inquiry and was evasive in her responses, the CBI told the court.

The accused’s attorney, Advocate Nitesh Rana, rejected the CBI’s argument, claiming that the arrest was unlawful.

Kavitha was interrogated by CBI agents inside the jail recently, after approval from a special court.

The BRS leader was questioned regarding the documents pertaining to a land deal and the WhatsApp conversations that were found on co-accused Buchi Babu’s phone. Following this, it was purported that the Aam Aadmi Party received bribes totaling Rs 100 crore in order to influence the excise policy for the national capital in favor of the liquor lobby.

Kavitha, 46, was placed in judicial custody after the ED detained her on March 15 at her Hyderabad home in Banjara Hills.
