First, prayers are conducted within mosques rather than outside: Delhi LG

L-G VK Saxena stated on Thursday that Eid prayers were held within the mosque premises, maybe for the first time in the city’s history. He added that it was a wonderful example of unity and coexistence.

He said on social media, “I sincerely thank the Imams of all the mosques and Eidgahs of Delhi and all our Muslim brothers for offering prayers inside the mosque premises.” “This may be the first occasion in Delhi’s history that the complete ‘namaz’ has been performed inside mosques and Eidgahs rather than outside on the streets. Delhi has shown national unity and collaboration by this action, the L-G said.

The L-G praised the action and said that the “Imams” and Muslim community members “ensured that traffic on the roads was not affected, and no untoward incident took place and the common people did not face any problem” by scheduling prayers within mosque premises, although at staggered times. Officials from Raj Niwas said there was never a “untoward incident” anywhere. The L-G made an appeal at a meeting with Imams, which led to the excellent performance.

“L-G proposed staggered dates for giving Namaaz in the mosques, so minimizing crowd overflow on streets, in a meeting with Imams on April 3. The religious leaders unanimously agreed with the plan, according to a statement.

Different spaces

According to officials, local authorities were directed to provide alternative public locations for Namaaz offerings in response to demands from imams.
