Five hospitalized due to overuse of painkillers in Tamil Nadu

Five children who inhaled the powdered medications had to be hospitalized, leading to the arrest of six adults, including a pharmacist.

Dr. R Murugesan, head of Tiruppur Medical College Hospital, told TNIE in an interview that these young people were dependent on powdered medicines. They had experienced nausea, headaches, and dizziness since consuming it two days before.

Early blood tests showed that the toxin had seriously damaged their liver. One of them is essential, but the other four are safe as of right now. They will be sent to the on-site de-addiction center after they have fully recovered, if they are

One of the hospitalized youngsters, Karthik (age 22), claimed in an interview with TNIE, “I was born and raised in Velliangadu in Tiruppur city. I work in a clothing section as a packing assistant. I was first exposed to these substances by two of my friends who were hooked to them.

Karthik is a Rajapalayam native.

“We have closed the pharmacy on Kangeyam Road that has been operating for the last two years,” a Drug Control Department (Tiruppur Division) officer said. The medication was purportedly purchased by the owner several weeks before from a pharmaceutical business situated in Gujarat. He had shown his license and made a bulk order.

As a result, we cannot find him. All medical wholesalers, however, have been directed to notify us if they receive any large orders for analgesics from Tamil Nadu. After being found, the narcotics were turned over to the Tiruppur district court. Additionally, we have taken action by closing the pharmacy and urging Chennai’s higher authorities to revoke their license.
