Guwahati Diary: IIT Guwahati’s exceptional year

2023 has been a year of academic success, innovation, and partnership for the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. It produced “smart drones,” held the G20-Y20 Inception Meet, accomplished research, infrastructure, placements, and partnership milestones, and founded the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute. Over 800 offers were received by IIT Guwahati, including 214 PPOs. Up till December 6, it got 11 job offers exceeding a Rs 1 crore package and 90 job offers with an annual salary of Rs 50 lakh. This year, the largest domestic offer received was Rs 1.20 crore.

To the astonishment of his well-wishers, Anand Mishra, an Indian Police Service officer and the superintendent of police of Lakhimpur, Assam, submitted his paper. Mishra, who is very well-liked by young people and was raised in Kolkata, said in his letter of resignation to the chief secretary that he wanted to live an independent and free life. Although his decision to leave the government was not made public, there are rumors that he may have done so in order to run for parliament in Bihar, where his family is originally from, in the next Lok Sabha elections.

Department of Education will employ 10,000 new teachers
One of the BJP’s primary electoral pledges for 2021 is very certainly being fulfilled. The 10,000 more teachers that the party-led Assam government plans to hire will include 7,249 graduate and 1,424 post-graduate instructors. A job posting has been released by the education department to fill positions in provincialized schools. “Our government has released vacancies for over 10,000 posts in the Education Department,” tweeted Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on X. Our pledge to create over one lakh government employment in the most transparent way in Assam’s history would not only be fulfilled, but surpassed.
